Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our pieces, our process, and what to expect when you commission with us.
The Commission Process
How do I commission a custom piece?
Every commission begins with a conversation. Simply reach out through our Contact page and tell us about your family, your vision, and what you hope this piece will mean. We will respond personally within 1–2 business days to begin the process.
What information do you need to get started?
The more you share, the better. We love to hear about your family history, the occasion you are marking, any crests or symbols that are meaningful to you, your preferred materials, and how you envision the piece being used or displayed. There are no wrong answers — we will guide you through the rest.
How long does a custom commission take?
Most custom commissions are completed within 4–8 weeks, depending on complexity and our current schedule. We will give you a clear timeline before we begin and keep you informed throughout the process. We do not rush our work — and we trust you would not want us to.
Can I see a design proof before you begin crafting?
Yes. For all custom commissions, we provide a design consultation and, where applicable, a digital proof for your approval before any material is cut or engraved. Your satisfaction with the design is essential before we proceed.
Do you take a deposit for custom work?
No. You purchase the design by selecting a style and providing details like your surname and any specific elements you’d like included. You’ll receive a design for approval, and if for any reason you’re not happy with it or change your mind, you can get a full refund. Our goal is to create a piece you’ll love for years to come.
What We Use & How We Work
What materials do you work with?
We work primarily with solid hardwoods — most often American black walnut, white oak, and cherry — alongside antique gold hardware, ivory inlay, and hand-applied finishes. All materials are selected for their beauty, durability, and ability to age gracefully over generations.
Are your pieces made entirely by hand?
Yes. Every piece is handcrafted in our studio using traditional woodworking techniques. While we use precision tools to ensure accuracy, every joint is fitted, every surface is finished, and every engraving is executed by hand. No two pieces are identical.
How do I care for my piece?
Wood is a living material that responds to its environment. We recommend keeping your piece away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity. Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Occasionally apply a small amount of quality wood wax or oil to maintain the finish. Detailed care instructions are included with every piece.
Will my piece look exactly like the photos?
Because we work with natural materials, every piece has its own unique grain pattern, tone, and character. The photos on our site represent the quality and style of our work, but your piece will be one of a kind — which is precisely the point.
Getting Your Piece to You Safely
How do you ship your pieces?
Every piece is carefully wrapped and packed in custom protective packaging designed to keep it safe in transit. We ship via insured carriers and provide tracking information as soon as your order is dispatched.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide. International shipping times and costs vary by destination. Please note that customs duties and import taxes are the responsibility of the recipient. Contact us before ordering if you have questions about international delivery.
What if my piece arrives damaged?
In the rare event that your piece is damaged in transit, please photograph the packaging and the piece immediately and contact us within 48 hours of delivery. All shipments are insured and we will work swiftly to make it right.
Making It a Moment
Can I have a piece gift-wrapped or include a personal message?
Absolutely. All of our pieces are presented in premium packaging befitting a gift of this significance. We are happy to include a handwritten note or a printed message card at no additional charge. Simply let us know at the time of your order.
Do you offer corporate or bulk gifting?
Yes. We work with organizations, churches, and families who wish to commission multiple pieces for special occasions, anniversaries, or recognition gifts. Please contact us to discuss your needs and we will create a custom proposal.
I need a piece by a specific date. Is that possible?
We will always do our best to accommodate meaningful deadlines. Please reach out as early as possible and let us know your date — we will be honest with you about what is achievable and will never compromise the quality of your piece to meet a timeline.
Still Have Questions?
